Save Posidonia Project

Our parent brand, Henna Morena, sponsors seagrass restoration in Formentera through the Save the Posidonia Project. This is what that means, and why it matters to a hair care company.
A plant, not an alga
Posidonia oceanica is often called seaweed. It is not. It is a flowering plant, endemic to the Mediterranean, with roots, leaves and seeds — a meadow growing underwater rather than a drifting alga.
Those meadows do a great deal of work. They release oxygen, capture carbon dioxide, keep the water clear, hold the seabed together so beaches are not washed away, and shelter hundreds of species that have nowhere else to breed. The clarity people travel to the Balearics to see is not a coincidence; it is a by-product of the plant growing underneath.
The partnership
Save the Posidonia Project is an initiative of the Consell Insular de Formentera, the island council. It funds the protection and restoration of the meadows around the island, measured and sponsored square meter by square meter.
Henna Morena sponsors that restoration, with revenue from its Protective Hair Serum going to the project.
Why a hair care company
Sandra Vivancos, who founded the brand, is the granddaughter of fishermen and a surfer. In her words: “True beauty exists without turning our backs on nature.” The connection is not a marketing construction laid over the products afterwards — it is where the formulas started.
Marine plants survive conditions that would destroy most living tissue: hours of direct radiation, swings in temperature and salinity, constant mechanical stress. They manage it by building their own protective mechanisms. The Protective Hair Serum borrows that idea, using red algae — sometimes called mermaid hair — as a source of natural keratin that strengthens the hair fiber and brings back hydration, elasticity and shine.
It is formulated with highly biodegradable ingredients and carries no synthetic fragrance. A product made in the name of the sea that then pollutes it would be a contradiction, and an obvious one.
What you can do
Buying the serum is one way in, and the simplest. But the meadows are also damaged by anchoring on them, so if you sail the Mediterranean, anchor on sand and not on the green.
